Job Description

- Design, develop, build, and test new separations, reactor vessels, control systems, and algorithms to control instrument functions.
- Work with cross-functional teams to create & deploy new instrument systems, integrating biologic sensing systems with mechanical systems and control software.
- Create system architecture concepts, drawings, and other design specifications.
- Build and maintain BOMs, ensuring sustainability and managing obsolescence of existing components.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues, including those reported from the field.
- Conduct thorough testing of cell and gene therapy protocols from bench work in the lab to analyzing the DOE data you generate, and then propose the next set of experiments. You will also support formal verification activities including certification testing.
- Follow standards and procedures, creating documentation that meets quality procedures, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental policies.
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Chemical/Biologic Engineering (M.S. preferred)
- Industry Experience: 0-3 years of experience for Engineer 1; 2-6 years of experience for Engineer 2. Preferably in life sciences or medical devices.
- Highly skilled in control systems concepts. Knowledge of basic cellular biology concepts. Ability to think in terms of a series of unit operations working together to create a system. Knowledge of data acquisition, sensors/actuators, and controls a plus.
- Solid understanding of chemical engineering principles such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and reaction kinetics, with hands-on skills to build and test prototypes. Experience with laboratory instrumentation (pipetting, bioreactors, cell analysis equipment, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Any computer programming skills are a plus, as well as lab bench experience.
- Excellent team-building skills, encouraging communication and collaboration.
- Strong verbal and written communication, with robust organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to travel 10-15% domestically.
The compensation package for this role includes a base salary range is $88,000 – $95,000 (depending on experience), annual bonus, and equity. MaxCyte also offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance and generous time off.
