Job Description

TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Scientist I, Product Development & Innovation

 

REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD

 

REPORTS TO: Scientific Director, Ex vivo

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:The Scientist I will perform cross-functional laboratory assays with a focus on in vitro/ex-vivo studies and co-develop new assays in collaboration with the Immuno Oncology Research & Development Scientists. The Scientist I will assist in scaling ex vivo platforms for high throughput screening, understand, operate, and train personnel with automated liquid handling systems as well as maintain and collect data using various systems and databases.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instrumental in managing internal R&D efforts that includes development and establishment of cell culture conditions (e.g., media) for new tumor indications and ex vivo product offerings.
  • Responsible for compiling internal data and build a robust pipeline for data transfer to marketing.
  • The scientist will also lead a matrix team to assemble data packages for products in a time sensitive & peer-reviewed format.
  • Manage the training and technology transfer of new assay & technologies from product development to Operations.
  • Perform advanced cell culture including culturing primary cells and characterizing their growth and survival using 2-D and 3-D cell-based assays.
  • Responsible for development of novel 2D, 3D and 4D platforms across multiple tumor types including media development, characterization using histology and flow cytometry.
  • Responsible for inventory management and accounting for laboratory and supply inventory for product development team.
  • Matrix lead across teams to build in efficiencies within cell-based and biomarker assays.
  • Responsible for processes improvements, writing standard operating procedures, and ensuring smooth operations within the product development team.
  • Responsible for cross-checking and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across product development.
  • Provide effective communication with Ex Vivo, Commercial and Marketing teams to enable the transition of projects to products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Expertise in Cell Culture, media development, 2-D and 3-D cell-based assays such as spheroids or cells in gel systems is required.
  • Experience with IC50 assay set-up and data analysis is required.
  • Experience working with cells from PDX or GEMM is preferred.
  • Deep oncology background is preferred.
  • Experience with HTS assays and working with automated liquid handling systems is preferred.
  • Proficiency in relevant 2-D and 3-D assay endpoints including Cell Titer Glow, flow cytometry, high content imaging and multiplex analyses (Luminex) is preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a cross-functional team.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A PhD in life science and up to 2years of oncology or immune-oncology related experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in or adjacent to an animal facility is preferred.
  • Prior experience in media and product development is preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel.
  • Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility.
  • Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushing.
  • In carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes and chemical hazards.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
