Job Title: Scientist – Molecular Biology and Viral Vector Production
Location: Rockville, MD (On-site)
Position Type: Full-Time
Brief Job Overview and Responsibilities:
Our team is looking for a Scientist to join our laboratory production team. This is a hands-on bench role focused on the production of plasmid DNA and viral vectors. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a dynamic lab environment with shifting priorities and fast turnaround times.
- Conduct plasmid DNA production workflows from start to finish, including miniprep, midiprep, maxiprep, and gigaprep scale preparations
- Perform molecular cloning techniques such as multi-fragment DNA assembly and site-directed mutagenesis
- Carry out cell culture and transfection protocols for viral vector packaging
- Perform viral vector titration and quality assessments
- Execute molecular biology assays, including RNA/DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting, and restriction enzyme digests
- Prepare samples for downstream applications such as DNA sequencing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including CRISPR engineering and MEF modification teams, to support integrated project goals
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow standardized operating procedures (SOPs)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or Bioengineering with 3–4 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting
- Strong proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques, including plasmid DNA preparation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and bacterial transformation
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and transfection methods
- Familiarity with molecular cloning tools and software (e.g., SnapGene)
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and adapt to shifting project needs
- Excellent attention to detail and data integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related life science discipline
- Experience working in a CDMO or biotechnology small business environment
- Hands-on experience with viral vector packaging and titering (e.g., lentiviral or AAV vectors)
- Knowledge of quality control and assay development for nucleic acids and proteins
- Familiarity with LIMS or electronic lab notebooks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for scientific documentation and cross-functional teamwork
- Bilingual skills in Mandarin
